from Dan Young of This Providence:
Hello, hello. You would think after writing so many damn blogs, I wouldn’t feel so awkward about the whole thing. However, I still haven’t mastered that introductory sentence that’s meant to make a person think, “I’m intrigued, I want to read more.” Nope, I still feel awkward. I’m sure if I were in school bullshitting countless essays, I’d be great at it. Still reading? Weird.
Currently I am visiting my homeland, Australia. Well, actually that’s the weird part, I can’t figure out what home is anymore. I think it might be Seattle now. That’s where my immediate family is, that’s where I’ve spent nearly half my life now, and um, it’s where I live. Yeah, Seattle is home. The old me would be very upset for moving on, but the new me says, “deal with it.” Plus, even though Seattle isn’t quite as cool as Melbourne, it’s still the coolest city in the US! So there’s that too.
I love visiting Australia. There’s a different approach to life here. For example, people are lazier…I mean…um, more laid back, the pace is a bit slower. My cousin actually gets paid double for working on Sundays! I LOVE it. Not that I have any problem with over-working myself, but I fully support the idea of taking life a bit slower. It’s an interesting thing to think about, the pace of life and how different cultures perceive time. Personally, I get a little uncomfortable hanging around workaholics sometimes, you know those people who are constantly wired, rushing from one thing to the next. It makes me feel like if I’m not stressed or overwhelmed then I must be lazy and unproductive. Anyway, if you do want to get away with being a little more relaxed about your time, try Australia. It’s ultimate.
Well, I’m going to go take a nap. Cheers from Australia!
